Funded by Belfast City Council – Spring into Action project at the Centre is aimed at increasing participation in physical activity and awareness healthier lifestyles amongst women and children.
The project ran from April 2016 – March 2017 and engaged over 150 women and children in a varied programme of activities of Armchair aerobics, Pilates, Zumba, Swimming, Pramtastics and kids exercise sessions. Health & Nutrition were key elements of the programme with participants involved in cookery and gardening sessions.
The key outcomes of our project were:
- women of all ages and cultural backgrounds, who currently had little or no engagement in physical activities, became engaged in a range of activities for all abilities.
- participants engaged in nutritional awareness and practical healthy cookery sessions aimed at replicating this learning to the home.
- children increased their level of physical activity by taking part in sports sessions with a coach.
We are delighted to have been awarded funding for the second year to continue this programme until March 2018.
